For as long as I can remember I’ve loved going back to school. From buying notebooks to picking classes, I seriously cannot get enough. Since I graduated in May this is the first time I won’t be participating in this beloved yearly ritual. So to help myself (and hopefully others) cope, I’ve come up with some ways to enjoy all things “back to school” without actually going back.
Celebrate with a mixtape. First things first, a few of my favorite fall songs.
Freshen up that wardrobe of yours.
Whether or not you’re going back to class, you should take time to simplify/weed out the clothes you haven’t been wearing. Flip all of your hangers the other way around, when you wear something put that hanger back the normal way. After a few weeks you can see what you wear and don’t wear by which hangers have remained untouched. Pretty nifty tip right?
As a young professional I’m looking for quality pieces that are going to last me, but also fit in my budget. So this fall I’m looking for essential wardrobe elements that are in it for the long haul. One of my personal favorite places to shop, Need Supply, is based in Richmond, Virginia and offers a thoughtful collection of independent labels and contemporary designers.
Since the majority of folks will be flocking back to class, it’s your turn to enjoy the usually crowded spots. This means day dates at the museum or a weekday matinee at Ciné. Soak up some culture or indulge in that latest rom com, it’s up to you! Go with friends or head out solo, you never know what adventures you’ll find.
Ciné, Athens local art house cinema, is playing 20 Feet From Stardom, Much Ado About Nothing, and Before Midnight this week. For times and upcoming features check out their website here.
Right now the High Museum of Art in Atlanta is hosting “Girl with a Pearl Earring: Dutch Paintings from the Mauritshuis” until September 29th. Find out more about the exhibit here! Plus the High has great long term exhibits, especially in modern art (one such piece pictured below).
Take a day trip, visit the park, rent a bike. Find a way to get outside at least once in your weekly (or maybe daily) routine. That dose of fresh air and sunshine will do you and your mood a world of good. Who says you have to be in school to take a field trip?
At the end of the day the back to school ritual is one of many little things that make life more enjoyable. So if you take nothing else away from this post, keep in mind this advice: never stop learning and always appreciate the world around you.
