Seeing as it's the Friday before Memorial Day, there's a solid chance that you've got your eye on the clock - waiting for that magical moment when your three day weekend begins. Personally, I haven't been able to stop daydreaming about idyllic summer drinks and my upcoming trip to the beach. The fruits of my preoccupation take the form of a traditional Mexican beer cocktail, namely the Michelada. Whether you're poolside or in charge of the grill, you can't go wrong with this fairly tart, spicy drink.
MICHELADA (makes one)
For the rim: 1 T kosher salt / 1 tsp chili powder /1 pinch black pepper / lime wedge
For the glass: 3 dashes hot sauce / 2 dashed worcestershire / 12 oz beer / 1/2 lime juice
Combine the salt, chili powder, black pepper in a small dish. Rub the rim of the glass with the lime wedge then dip it in the salt mix. Fill with 3-4 cubes of ice (more if ya want). Add the hot sauce, worcestershire, lime juice - then pour in the beer. Serve immediately (and with the playlist below).
At the crack of dawn tomorrow morning I'll start my journey to the place pictured above. To help you and yours (and myself) celebrate properly this weekend I put together a playlist that's optimum for day-drinking, soaking up sun and enjoying summer's welcome party.
