Everyone loves lists, most everyone has trouble making one. I'm human and therefore susceptible to list-fatigue, etc. Regardless! There was a lot of music I loved this year and a handful of records I couldn't put down. So I figured I'd share what I enjoyed in case you were looking for something to listen to at your desk / while you're trying to find some space from your family.
Below's a short, alphabetical list of some of my favorite records of 2015 - along with a picture I took and a good track to start with. Even further below, you'll find a playlist of my favorite songs of the year. It's all highly subjective, but hopefully you'll find something new you like!
ANAMAI - Sallows
You're laying at the end of a dock, hands stretched out over the edge. Time isn't measured in minutes but by the patient extension of rings on the water's surface. Maybe you've been here all day? The sun is starting to set and your fingers are beginning to lose feeling. One thing's certain, you'll feel the gentle rock of the waves long after you've gone to sleep.
Archy Marshall - A New Place 2 Drown
You've found a poorly-lit, corner booth nestled comfortably underneath a hefty layer of smoke. Light refracts from feeble tealights that waver precariously as cheap pints slosh anew. It's the third bar of the night and your group's pace has locked in. No rush, no plans.
Helen - The Original Faces
Someone chucked a lemon slushie at my windshield and there's a tape stuck in the dash (it's been there for weeks). But the sun's out and you don't have to be back at work 'til Monday.
Ought - Sun Coming Down
Who is this used-car salesman? Doesn't he seem a bit young? He talks as if his tie's on too tight, his nerves frayed. Wait - I thought he was pulling the car around for us to drive? Why's he taking it off the lot? Can you believe he'd just peel out of here?! And without even a word of warning.
Protomartyr - The Agent Intellect
Ten fingers on the dash, three of which are partially hidden by a once-white bandage. Its frayed end catching the breeze. You scratch absentmindedly beneath the fold even though you shouldn't. Tossing a glance over your shoulder you realize you're out of city limits. Turning back, the sun starts to break on the horizon.
Twerps - Range Anxiety
Do you ever feel like your life's suddenly going in slow motion? Not in a dramatic way. You sort of step outside yourself as if to say, "Yep, just as I thought! This is such a lovely afternoon that even though it's a non-event I know it'll stick with me for years to come." It's the light catching in your friend's hair, cold beer on an unseasonably warm day, knowing you won't have to leave - not just yet.
The Weather Station - Loyalty
Tracing lines on the counter as fresh coffee drips, slowly filling up the pot. Your mind's out west, or at the very least beyond what lies outside your kitchen window. Pulling your sweater a little closer you make your way back to the present. The sun's peaking its way through the curtains, splashing onto the cabinets.
